Skateboarding is lots of fun, but your fun can be ruined if you’re
not dressed properly. Falling in a pair of shorts while not wearing
kneepads is a great example of having your fun ruined. Keep reading if
you want some tips for skateboarding attire.
The best way to go about this is to work from the head down. Starting
with the head, we introduce the helmet. Always wear your helmet. Hats
are cool; beanies are, too, but only a helmet will keep your skull from
cracking like an egg.
Next up is the face. You can wear eye
protection if you want, but that’s not really necessary for
skateboarding. You may want to put on a pair of sunglasses if it’s a
bright day, but that’s optional, too.
If you like your teeth, you
may want to invest in a mouth guard. This is not necessary, because
you’re likely to fall on your butt before you fall on your face, but
some people like to wear a mouth guard anyway. You can’t be too safe,
right?
If you aren’t going to wear elbow pads while you’re
skating, invest in a long sleeve shirt. When you fall, your elbows will
thank you. A long sleeve shirt isn’t better than elbow pads, though.
It’s just a quick alternative.
When you’re wearing a short sleeve
shirt, it’s absolutely a must to wear elbow pads. If you fall forward,
it typically goes hands, then elbows. You’ll want to keep your elbows
protected.
You could also buy some wrist guards if you’re
worried about getting a wrist injury. You might want to buy a wrist
guard if you’ve hurt your wrists in the past, too. Better safe than
sorry!
A lost of people choose not to wear wrist guards because
first, they’re dorky. Second; wrist guards can cause upper arm injuries.
If you want to keep your hands from scraping on the pavement, but don’t
want to wear wrist guards, then buy some gloves.
If you’re a
new skater, consider buying tailbone and hip pads. There’s nothing like
falling on your tailbone. It hurts a lot, and also keeps you from
skating for a while. If you want to keep skating, then get at least a
tailbone pad.
If you plan on skateboarding without any knee pads,
you will definitely need to wear some jeans. Regular pants will offer
more protection than shorts, but jeans are definitely the way to go.
The
final thing you have to keep protected is your left and right foot. If
you have a history of ankle problems, you may want to invest in an ankle
brace. This may pose a threat to your upper leg

, but it’s better than having a shattered ankle.
Don’t
forget to wear the right shoes for skating. It’s never a good idea to
go skating in running or track shoes. Go buy some proper skate shoes.
Always remember: Safety first.
